Learn to Drive the School Bus
Calcasieu Parish School Board will host a pre-service and behind-the-wheel training for substitute school bus drivers at the Calcasieu Parish School Board Department of Transportation Office located at 3310 Broad Street on the dates and times shown below. Completing this course is required by the Louisiana Department of Education and Calcasieu Parish School Board policy for all persons who want to become a certified Louisiana substitute school bus driver. All classes will be held in the upstairs classroom at the Transportation Office at 3310 Broad Street. Please dress comfortably for all training sessions, especially on Saturdays. Saturday will be an all-day hands-on training on how to pre-trip the school bus, so getting dirty is a possibility.
CPSB employees interested in applying for a position as a substitute bus driver for Calcasieu Parish School System must complete an application before entering the class. Below is the link. Look for Bus Driving Pool.

Message from Our Director Aaron McDonald

From the Desk of Big-A: Monday 2/23/26
Good evening! Just a few points of interest for the rest of the week:
- Payroll for February will be accepted starting at 12 pm this Wednesday through the end of the day on Thursday, 2/26.
- I know the calendar still says February, but our March Madness has started with many days of 30+ buses out with trips. Please continue to communicate amongst one another, with your schools, and the office staff to ensure that we get everyone home.
- Bid results are being finalized now, and I will share in the days to come – if you know who you are switching with, please start organizing/sharing pink sheets, contact logs, etc. with the new driver; new assignments start next Monday, 3/2.
- Thank you to all those who supported the Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Planning during the three big Mardi Gras parades!
- Phase 1 of the I-10 Bridge project is about to begin now that the “prep” phase is coming to an end. I see no immediate impacts that we haven’t already adjusted to, but it will be in the news here shortly.
- Those who cross the Contraband Bayou Bridge (Sale Road between Holly Hill Road and Lake Street) should be prepared for detours to start in the weeks to come – we hope to have a map to share with you shortly.
- Thank you for sharing all your Appreciation Week pictures, letters, and social media posts!
- Friendly reminder that when you are in a wreck, fender-bender, or make contact with another vehicle, you need to safely secure your bus and contact us – you can be ticketed for leaving the scene…even if you were the one that got hit!
Thanks for all that you do. Payday is at the end of the week, and the time change is right around the corner!
