Learn to Drive the School Bus

Calcasieu Parish School Board will host a pre-service and behind-the-wheel training for substitute school bus drivers at the Calcasieu Parish School Board Department of Transportation Office located at 3310 Broad Street on the dates and times shown below.  Completing this course is required by the Louisiana Department of Education and Calcasieu Parish School Board policy for all persons who want to become a certified Louisiana substitute school bus driver.  All classes will be held in the upstairs classroom at the Transportation Office at 3310 Broad Street.  Please dress comfortably for all training sessions, especially on Saturdays.  Saturday will be an all-day hands-on training on how to pre-trip the school bus, so getting dirty is a possibility.

If you are new to CPSB, you must follow a different procedure.  Your link and instructions can be found at this link.

I hope that these last 3 weeks have allowed you to start the rest and recharge from the 2025-2026 school year, and anticipation is starting to build for the start of the 2026-2027 school year!

Please make note of the following:

  1. For those who have retired at some point during the 25-26 school year and wish to stay permanently with us for 26-27, please read carefully (you can also set up an appointment with the district’s retirement specialist):                                                                                   A. Please email Mrs. Lynell and me your intent between Monday, June 22nd, and Friday, August 28th; we (CPSB) will do the following:
  2. Submit a declaration of your intent to rehire. This will require your signature and ours
  3. Enroll you as a Return To Work (RTW) retiree using the Retiree Return to Work Enrollment Form
  4. CPSB will deduct member contributions in the amount of 8% and report the contributions as unsheltered. First date of service rules do not apply to RTW retirees. RTW retirees are treated as new hires.
  5. Report actual earnings and contributions with all other active LSERS members.
  6. PLEASE NOTE THE FOLLOWING
  1. Your pension will be suspended for the first 12-month period immediately following your retirement (6-month period if you retired before 7/1/24).
  2. Contributions will be withheld from your earnings and will be reported as unsheltered.
  3. You will not earn any additional service credit or benefits in the retirement system.
  4. You can apply for a refund of your unsheltered member contributions after you terminate your employment.  As unsheltered, your refund is not taxable income.
  5. Attached is the flyer for 2026-2027 Physicals and Back to School meetings.
  6. I would like to welcome Mr. Dennis Jefferson to the office staff; his primary focus will be assisting Mrs. Jennifer with routing.  For those that serviced Barbe HS in years past will probably remember Mr. Dennis supporting Barbe admin with transportation while he was a student there!
