2. Differences Between the North and the South: Two Sides- Students will fill in the blanks of descriptor statements for the North and South. Then, they will offer alternate words that could fill in blanks of their choosing.
3. Class discussion when finished.4. Students will use the back of this activity worksheet to write a summary of what they know about the North’s and South’s different philosophies of the best way to exist as a country during this time. This should include a paragraph with a claim and at least three supporting statements for each region. Today’s activity and any class materials may be used for inspiration.

-Bell Ringer-Graded Activity- Sectionalism: Two Sides- Students classify different beliefs that led to sectionalism as either belonging to the North or belonging to the South. Notes can be used for assistance, and this is due at the end of class.

-Bell Ringer-Newspaper Advertisements Gallery Walk-Students will rotate through stations containing newspaper advertisements from The Daily Picayune in New Orleans (primary sources). They will answer the questions corresponding with each advertisement and then move to another station until all five stations have been visited. There are a few culminating questions which will be answered after visiting all stations.
-Discuss students’ findings.

Students will draw for assignments of abolitionist on which to create their profile. (Sojourner Truth, William Lloyd Garrison, the Quakers, Frederick Douglass, Harriet Tubman, Harriet Beecher Stowe). They will complete a profile for this abolitionist to present and appeal to their classmates. Research may be completed using class notes and the links provided in Canvas. Students should aim to complete most of the profile today leaving only a little to finish up tomorrow.Thursday 2/8/24

-Continue Abolitionist Spotlight Activity- Students will add finishing touches to their abolitionist’s profile. We will begin sharing today. The goal in sharing is to find a partner with a different abolitionist and interview one another while filling in each packet with information from someone that student did not research. We will switch partners until all have had a chance to conduct their interview with each abolitionist. (Five minutes given for each interview-about 2:30 for each partner to present)Friday 2/9/24
