  • History

The Spanish Immersion program started at W. W. Lewis Middle School in 1992 with two subjects taught exclusively in Spanish: Spanish Language and Social Studies and with Mr. Tony Dougherty as principal. The program has added a third class, Science, taught exclusively in Spanish, through the years. We offered a solid and well-established Immersion program that was granted the Certified World Language Immersion Education Site by the Louisiana Departmet of Education in the school year 2018-2019.

Our Immersion students start from Kindergarten at Frasch Elementary School. After middle school, our students continue at Sulphur High School with Spanish III, IV, V and AP Spanish literature. Afterwards, some of them end up qualifying for Seal of Biliteracy upon graduation and they can CLEP out college.
