The SHS Twisters are chosen in the spring by a panel of judges after strict guidelines have been met by the participants. All contestants must have teacher recommendation sheets filled out, be a member of two clubs or organizations, and have a 2.0 grade point average. If these requirements are met, the girls are taught a dance they must learn in two days to perform for the judges, along with all the required dance steps, leaps, splits, turns and kicks. They are also judged on appearance, facial expression, posture, and poise. The Twisters perform for all football games, basketball games, soccer games, and many community functions. They take part in area parades, and help with several charitable organizations. The girls also attend dance camp during the summer to prepare for the coming school year.
