iPads and the MDM
iPad and the Mobile Device Manager (MDM)
- What is the MDM? The MDM allow us to:
- connect to wifi without the teacher having to enter a username and password
- remove "Activation Locks" and forgotten passcodes
- locate missing iPads without needing the users AppleID and password
- push settings and restrictions
- push apps
- do some remote troubleshooting
- How to determine if your iPad is in the MDM
- Look at the bottom of the lock screen, if in the MDM, you should see "Property of the Calcasieu Parish School Board".
- OR go to "Settings" and at the top left column, you should see the following:
- What to do if your iPad is not in the MDM
- You will need to reset the iPad and set it up as new.
- This will delete EVERYTHING on the iPad and will be like it was when you took it out of the box for the first time.
- Go to "Settings/General" then scroll down to the bottom of the screen and tap "Reset" then tap "Erase All Content & Settings".
- After it is reset, you will just need to go through the setup screens and the iPad will automatically be enrolled in the MDM.
- When asked to join wifi, you will select CPSB-SECURE and will need to enter your username and password.
- After the setup is complete, check the wifi for "CPSB-MEM" to appear under "Preferred Networks".
- Once you see "CPSB-MEM" in the "Preferred Networks" section, you will be able to join it without a username and password
- If you select "CPSB-MEM" and it asks for a password, then the iPad is not yet finished registering with the MDM so wait 15 minutes or so and try again.
- Once successfully connected to "CPSB-MEM" you can select "CPSB-SECURE" and forget that network.
- What if the iPad is asking for an AppleID and Password
- If, during the reset, you are asked for an AppleID and password for a user that is unknown, put in a help ticket asking that the "Activation Lock" removed.
- Once removed, you'll be able to complete the iPad setup.
