Calcasieu Parish School Board Announces 2025–2026 Teachers of the Year
The Calcasieu Parish School Board is proud to recognize the 2025–2026 Teachers of the Year. This year’s district-level honorees are elementary winner Kayla Armentor of Dolby Elementary, middle school winner Sara Logan of S.P. Arnett Middle School, and high school winner Nelkika Colquitt of LaGrange High School.
“Great teachers spark curiosity, build confidence, and change the trajectory of students’ lives,” said Superintendent Dr. Jason VanMetre. “These three educators exemplify what it means to lead with passion, purpose, and heart. To achieve this honor, we know their classrooms are places where students feel valued and capable, and their commitment to excellence strengthens our entire district. We are honored to celebrate them as this year’s Teachers of the Year.”
Kayla Armentor – Dolby Elementary
Elementary Teacher of the Year
A graduate of McNeese State University, Kayla Armentor has spent seven years in the classroom, with the last three proudly serving the students and families of Calcasieu Parish. As a third-grade ELA teacher, Armentor is known for her creativity, love of reading, and ability to build strong, lasting relationships with her students. She believes deeply in empowering children to take ownership of their learning, designing lessons that encourage leadership, collaboration, and student voice. Her classroom is a vibrant community where every child is welcomed, supported, and encouraged to shine.
Sara Logan – S.P. Arnett Middle School
Middle School Teacher of the Year
With six years of teaching experience, Sara Logan currently serves as a 7th Grade Math and 7th/8th Grade Accelerated Math teacher. She holds a B.S. in Mass Communication and an M.S. in Instructional Technology from McNeese State University. Logan brings leadership and service to her campus, not only in the classroom but also through roles as Health Lead, Student Council Advisor, and T.G.I.F. Advisor. She is actively pursuing additional certifications in mentoring and educational leadership, demonstrating her commitment to continuous growth and to supporting the next generation of educators.
Nelkika Colquitt – LaGrange High School
High School Teacher of the Year
At LaGrange High School, Nelkika Colquitt is known as a positive force, an educator whose words of affirmation, encouragement, and high expectations push students to become the best versions of themselves. She describes herself as a demanding yet deeply supportive teacher who challenges students academically while nurturing confidence, resilience, and self-belief. Colquitt’s dedication to uplifting students and her unwavering commitment to their success make her a standout educator. Her approach to teaching reflects passion, purpose, and a genuine desire to see every student excel.
These outstanding educators represent the very best of Calcasieu Parish schools. Their dedication, innovation, and love for students set a powerful example for teachers across the district.
