Calcasieu Parish School Board Spotlights District’s Top Librarians for 2025–2026
The Calcasieu Parish School Board is proud to spotlight the 2025–2026 Librarians of the Year. This year’s district-level honorees are Carol Womack from Dolby Elementary School, Carla Craddock from LeBlanc Middle School, and Kelli Richard from LaGrange High School.
“School librarians play a vital role in the educational journey of our students,” said Superintendent Dr. Jason VanMetre. “They cultivate a love for reading, support academic growth, and create safe spaces where students feel welcomed and inspired. We are honored to celebrate these three outstanding librarians who bring literacy to life for our students every day.”
Carol Womack – Dolby Elementary School
Elementary Librarian of the Year
With 25 years of experience and a master’s degree in literacy, Womack brings unmatched enthusiasm and dedication to the Dolby Elementary library. She finds joy in watching children's eyes light up during an engaging read-aloud or seeing their pride when they pass an Accelerated Reader test.
Beyond her campus, Womack serves as president of the Calcasieu Reading Council and volunteers at numerous community events to promote literacy across the parish. She strives daily to instill in her students a purpose and passion for lifelong reading, knowing that books provide a quiet and lasting joy.
Carla Craddock – LeBlanc Middle School
Middle School Librarian of the Year
A devoted educator with more than 22 years in education, Craddock spent nineteen years as an English Language Arts teacher before transitioning into her role as school librarian. She holds both a Bachelor of Science in Education and a Master of Education in Educational Leadership from McNeese State University, along with School Librarian certification.
At LeBlanc Middle, Craddock is committed to fostering a love for reading and creating a warm, welcoming environment where students feel safe to learn and grow. She believes the library is not only a place for academic enrichment, but also a hub for connection. Through engaging activities, mini-lessons, and library lunches, she encourages students to share reading experiences, collaborate, and build meaningful relationships. While she occasionally misses the classroom, she finds deep fulfillment in helping students discover the joy of reading and supporting their personal and academic development.
Kelli Richard – LaGrange High School
High School Librarian of the Year
Richard brings 15 years of experience as a school librarian, 11 at the elementary level and four at the high school level, to her work at LaGrange High School. Over the course of 25 years serving Calcasieu Parish, she has remained deeply committed to helping students develop a genuine love for reading.
Known for her strong communication and organizational skills, Richard maintains an inviting, well-run library where students feel supported and valued. She sponsors the book club and library club, manages the Oak Tree Closet for students in need, and assists with campus technology. Motivated daily by her students, Richard is dedicated to helping them succeed academically and personally. Outside of work, she enjoys reading, shopping, and spending time with family and friends.
The Calcasieu Parish School Board is proud to recognize Womack, Craddock, and Richard for their exceptional impact on students, campuses, and the broader CPSB community.
