CPSB Academic Performance rises 3.3 points with 82% of schools achieving School Performance Score growth
With today’s School Performance Score release from the Louisiana Department of Education, the Calcasieu Parish School Board is proud to announce another year of district growth and significant improvement in schools across the district. The district’s overall score improved to an 86.1 (B), up 3.3 points from last year’s results and nearly ten points above the state’s performance. Out of all CPSB schools, 45 of those grew over performance from the 21-22 school year, and 48 of those schools are now labeled an A, B, or C campus.

With today’s School Performance Score release from the Louisiana Department of Education, the Calcasieu Parish School Board is proud to announce another year of district growth and significant improvement in schools across the district. The district’s overall score improved to an 86.1 (B), up 3.3 points from last year’s results and nearly ten points above the state’s performance. Out of all CPSB schools, 45 of those grew over performance from the 21-22 school year, and 48 of those schools are now labeled an A, B, or C campus.
“These results are a direct reflection of the hard work and dedication of our faculty, staff, and students,” said CPSB Superintendent Dr. Shannon LaFargue. “These scores are not given. They are earned, and we could not be prouder of the work that happened last year and the work that is continuing to happen today in our classrooms.”
Over 94% of CPSB students are now in an A, B, or C school. In the Progress component of the state accountability system, all schools earned a C or better, with 27 of those schools earning an A and 22 earning a B. Sixteen schools improved a letter grade, with the top growing schools in Calcasieu including some at each level: elementary, middle, and high. Of these schools listed below, Gillis Elementary made the state’s top ten in overall K-8 school growth.
As far as overall performance, four CPSB schools had an index over 100 and are listed below. Of those, T.S. Cooley Elementary is also the 7th highest performing K-8 school in Louisiana.
Of CPSB elementary schools, 26 of the 33 campuses showed growth, with nine of those schools growing by at least five points. All 11 CPSB middle schools improved or maintained their 21-22 letter grade, with ten of those showing growth. Five of those ten improved a letter grade, and six reflected growth of at least five points.
While elementary and middle school scores are mainly based on LEAP 2025 results, high school scores are based on a combination of LEAP scores, ACT scores, graduation rates, and graduation index. Nine of CPSB’s 11 high schools grew in overall performance, with all of these campuses earning an A, B, or C. Other components of the high school scores also showed significant growth and are included below.
“This is just a testament to what’s to come in our district,” said Dr. LaFargue. “Our students, our teachers, our staff, they are all putting in the hard work. This data is simply a reflection of what we already knew was happening on our campuses. Our students are being set up for success because our teachers are building solid foundations for the future.”
