CPSB again achieves School Performance Score growth, outperforming the State by over seven points
The Calcasieu Parish School Board is proud to announce another year of growth following today’s School Performance Score release from the Louisiana Department of Education. The district’s current score, 87.5 (B), is an increase of 1.4 points over last school year. This growth mirrors the district’s achievements every year since the natural disasters of 2020.
“Our students, faculty, and staff deserve all of the recognition for this growth in performance,” said CPSB Superintendent Dr. Jason VanMetre. “These results are more than numbers. This is more than data. This is hard work. This is dedication. This is commitment. We are incredibly proud of how these results reflect the incredible work happening on our campuses.”
Nearly 94% of CPSB students are in an A, B, or C school, and for the first time in recent years, no schools in the district received an F. In the progress component of the state accountability system, all schools earned a C or better, with 50 of those schools earning an A or B. In the category of overall growth, Pearl Watson Elementary and S.P. Arnett Middle made the state’s top ten improvement list. The district’s top growing schools are listed below.

When looking at overall LEAP performance in K-8, the district improved by nearly two points. The district also improved nearly an entire point in overall growth of K-8 students.
“We can look at these numbers and know that we are headed in the right direction,” said Dr. VanMetre. “We have the best students, the best teachers, and the best staff right here in Calcasieu, and these numbers reflect just a small piece of how great our district truly is because of the people here.”
In addition, the district saw 18 schools earn Top Gains status, meaning the school earned a progress index equivalent to an ‘A’ and did not earn any Urgent Intervention Required labels for student groups and/or discipline. Four schools were named Opportunity Honorees, earning recognition for being in the top 10% for performance among students with Disability, English Learners, or Economically Disadvantaged students. Five schools in the district earned both.
This is the last year that school districts in Louisiana will be assessed based on the current tool. Next year, the Louisiana Department of Education will be utilizing a new grading scale for schools and districts.
