CPSB Enrollment Continues Upward Trend for Fifth Consecutive Year

The Calcasieu Parish School Board is once again experiencing an increase in the number of K-12 students enrolled in district schools, marking an enrollment rise for the fifth consecutive year.

In a time when public schools across the state and nation are seeing decreases, growth is of significant importance here in Calcasieu.

“Seeing these numbers continue to rise is very promising,” said Superintendent Dr. Jason VaMetre. “These are not just numbers, these are students, these are children. Each number represents a parent or guardian who chose to trust us with their child’s educational journey, and that’s not something we take lightly.”

According to the early numbers, 27,505 students are currently enrolled in CPSB schools, an increase of over 50 students from this time last year, but also an increase of over 400 from the end of last school year. Enrollment in the district has continued to increase every year since the 2020-2021 school year marked by natural disasters. Enrollment figures over the past five years:

  • August 2021 – Beginning of 21–22 School Year: 25,400 
  • August 2022 – Beginning of 22–23 School Year: 26,581 
  • August 2023 – Beginning of 23–24 School Year: 27,000 
  • August 2024 – Beginning of 24–25 School Year: 27,071 
  • August 2025 – Beginning of 25–26 School Year: 27,449 
  • May 2026 – End of 25–25 School Year: 27,087

Schools with the largest enrollment increases compared to last year:

  • Combre Fondel Elementary: +65
  • S.J. Welsh Middle: +55
  • Iowa High: +43
  • Molo Middle: +35
  • Barbe High: +32

Official student counts will be submitted to the Louisiana Department of Education following another enrollment check in early October.
