Following the recent release of Advanced Placement results from the Louisiana Department of Education, the Calcasieu Parish School Board is proud to announce increases across the board in results for local students completing tests in the 2022-2023 school year.

Following the recent release of Advanced Placement results from the Louisiana Department of Education, the Calcasieu Parish School Board is proud to announce increases across the board in results for local students completing tests in the 2022-2023 school year.
Nearly 900 Calcasieu Parish high school students, representing all 11 CPSB high schools, took a total of 1,274 AP exams last year. Of those students, 57% scored a three or higher, earning credit towards their collegiate educational journey. CPSB students scoring a five, the highest possible score, increased by 42% over the 2021-2022 school year.
“The progress we are making academically as a district is outstanding,” said CPSB Superintendent Dr. Shannon LaFargue. “These AP scores are a true reflection of the hard work and dedication of our students and our staff. The student growth we are experiencing leaves us very excited for what’s ahead here in Calcasieu Parish.”
College Board recognizes students who score a three or higher on three or more AP exams with AP Scholar status. Calcasieu Parish is home to 144 high school AP students who qualified for this honor based on the 2023 AP exam scores.
Calcasieu is in the top five in the state for the percentage of students who passed AP exams with a score of three or higher. The district is also in the top ten in the state in the number of students who took exams and the number of exams administered.
Since 2019, the district has seen continuous growth in the number of students participating in AP coursework and taking AP exams. AP courses are offered to students beginning their 9th grade year, with the number of course opportunities increasing with each grade level. CPSB’s Advanced Studies Department staff members have worked hard to increase the number of courses offered, including adding AP Precalculus to the list. Pre-AP Dance and Pre-AP art are also now available to many students, and Pre-AP English I and II have been implemented in the district’s Gifted Program. Two dozen teachers went through training this year, and more training opportunities are in the works for next year.
