The Calcasieu Parish School Board is proud to recognize Courtney Ciesla of Maplewood Elementary School as the district’s 2025–2026 New Teacher of the Year. Ciesla, a first-grade teacher in Sulphur, is committed to building meaningful relationships in the classroom.

“First-year teachers bring fresh energy and new ideas to our schools, and Courtney represents the very best of our rising educators,” said Superintendent Dr. Jason VanMetre. “Her dedication to creating a nurturing, structured learning environment ensures that students feel safe, supported, and confident. We are proud to recognize her for the positive impact she is already making in our district.”

Ciesla holds a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education and a master’s degree in the Art of Teaching from Louisiana State University. She believes that strong relationships form the foundation of effective teaching and works intentionally to foster trust that supports both academic achievement and social-emotional development. Ciesla also places high value on collaboration, partnering with families and colleagues to ensure every student reaches his or her fullest potential.

Finalists for the Louisiana Department of Education’s New Teacher of the Year will be announced in March, and the winner will be announced in July.

The Calcasieu Parish School Board proudly celebrates Ciesla as the 2025–2026 New Teacher of the Year and looks forward to the continued impact she will have on students and the Maplewood Elementary community.
