With today’s Louisiana Department of Education release of LEAP results for the 2023-2024 school year, the Calcasieu Parish School Board is proud to announce continued growth in the district in overall student performance. With a one-point growth over last year, CPSB students in third through eighth grade continue to outscore the state in the number of students performing at or above grade level.
“We are incredibly proud of the work being done in our classrooms by our students and our teachers,” said Superintendent Dr. Jason VanMetre. “Today’s results are a testament of what we already know is happening in our schools, and that’s simply dedication and commitment to student learning.”
T.S. Cooley Elementary Magnet School landed on the top ten list in the state for overall school achievement. The 91% achievement rate ties the school for seventh. Pearl Watson Elementary earned the ninth spot in the state in school growth, outperforming last year’s mark by 13 points.
“It’s incredible to see Cooley and Pearl Watson amongst the top in the state for overall performance and overall growth,” said VanMetre. “However, this does not come as a surprise, as we know the level of work being put in on these campuses, and others, daily. We look forward to the seeing even more progress this next year as we continue to focus our efforts on both student growth and teacher growth.”
Other elementary and middle schools showing significant growth include LeBleu Settlement Elementary (7 points), S.P. Arnett Middle (6 points), and Gillis Elementary (6 points). At the high school level, Barbe High exhibited the highest growth in proficiency with a four-point improvement over last year.
