Student Advisory Council
ABOUT: The Calcasieu Superintendent’s Student Advisory Council is a leadership program and forum for direct communication between students and Dr. Jason VanMetre. This is not just any student group – our council plays a critical role in shaping policies and initiatives that impact every student in our district. As a member, you will have the unique opportunity to work closely with Dr. VanMetre and other district leaders, provide valuable insights, and drive meaningful change. Student members are selected by school-level administrators and are likely student council presidents or other types of organizational leaders. The Council will represent all high schools within the Calcasieu Parish School Board.
MISSION: Calcasieu Parish School Board students working directly with the superintendent, bringing the student voice to district level decisions, and advocating for improvement in the education system through student participation
GOAL: The goal is to increase communication between students and the superintendent, creating a better learning and school environment for all students. This will be accomplished by advising the superintendent of hot topics; engaging in meaningful conversations regarding students’ views, concerns, and perspectives; and working together to seek solutions to complicated situations.
MEMBERSHIP EXPECTATIONS: We take our work seriously, and we expect the same commitment from our council members. You will be representing your peers and helping to ensure that their voices are heard. This is a significant responsibility and an incredible opportunity to develop your leadership skills, make a real impact, and enhance your college applications.
- Council members expected to serve an 8-month term – September to May
- Team members are expected to commit to attending all meetings – exceptions made for urgent and unforeseen conflicts.
WHAT TO EXPECT:
- All meetings will be held at Central Office, located at 3310 Broad Street in Lake Charles. Meeting dates and times are as followed:
- October 10, 2024 at 12 p.m.
- January 7, 2025 at 12 p.m.
- April 15, 2025 at 12 p.m.
- Lunch will be provided.

WHAT’S IN IT FOR ME:

- Have an experience outside of your normal school schedule

Parent Advisory Council
ABOUT: The Calcasieu Superintendent’s Parent Advisory Council is a forum for direct communication between parents and Dr. Jason VanMetre. As a member, you will have the unique opportunity to work closely with Dr. VanMetre and other district leaders, provide valuable insights, and drive meaningful change. This group will collaborate to support and enhance the educational experience of students within our schools and district. Parent members are selected through an application process with the district. The Council will represent all schools within the Calcasieu Parish School Board.
MISSION: Calcasieu Parish School Board parents working directly with the superintendent to foster a collaborative partnership between parents, educators, and the community to support the academic, social, and emotional success of all students
GOAL: The goal is to bring the family voice to district-level decisions, creating a better learning and school environment for all students. This will be accomplished by advising the superintendent of hot topics; engaging in meaningful conversations regarding parents’ views, concerns, and perspectives; and working together to seek solutions to complicated situations.
MEMBERSHIP EXPECTATIONS: We take our work seriously, and we expect the same commitment from our council members. - October 11, 2024 at 2 p.m.
- January 6, 2025 at 2 p.m.

Teacher Advisory Council
ABOUT: The Calcasieu Superintendent’s Teacher Advisory Council is a forum for direct communication between teachers and Dr. Jason VanMetre. As a member, you will have the opportunity to work closely with Dr. VanMetre and other district leaders, provide valuable insights, and drive meaningful change. This group will collaborate to support and enhance the educational experience of students within our schools and district. Members are those teachers selected as their school’s Teacher of the Year. The Council will represent all schools within the Calcasieu Parish School Board.
MISSION: Calcasieu Parish School Board parents working directly with the superintendent to support the continuous improvement of teaching practices, advocate for innovative educational strategies, and foster a commitment to excellence in education that benefits both educators and students
GOAL: The goal is to bring the teacher voice to district-level decisions, creating a better learning and school environment for all students. This will be accomplished by advising the superintendent of hot topics; engaging in meaningful conversations regarding teachers’ views, concerns, and perspectives; and working together to seek solutions to complicated situations.
