Welcome To Barbe Elementary

Welcome to Barbe Elementary School, where our mission statement is to provide productive learning and leadership opportunities for all.  We believe we are a great school for students to attend because we provide a safe, nurturing environment committed to academic excellence.  Our core values are wrapped around Stephen R. Covey’s The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People: be proactive, begin with the end in mind, put first things first, think win-win, seek first to understand, then to be understood, synergize, and sharpen the saw.

Regarding our academic programs, our curriculum is aligned with the Louisiana Student Standards (LSS).  The standards specify what students should know and be able to do by the end of 12th grade to succeed in college and the workplace.  Students who are college and career ready can be characterized as:

  • Demonstrating independence
  • Building strong content knowledge
  • Responding to varying demands of audience, task, purpose and discipline
  • Comprehending as well as critiquing
  • Valuing evidence
  • Using technology and digital media strategically and capably
  • Understanding other perspectives and cultures

Our school’s goal is to increase proficiency in English Language Arts (ELA) and mathematics in grades kindergarten through fifth.  In ELA, we will focus on comprehending meaningful, on grade level texts and speaking and writing in response to meaningful texts.   In math, we will master priority concepts and practice standards (not just procedures) and master targeted remedial content that allows faster on grade level practice.  Our curriculum is delivered to students through a differentiated, individualized instruction approach.  Operating within a framework of continuous improvement, data analysis, and Response to Intervention (RTI) enables our faculty to challenge students to meet and exceed expectations as our children strive to become lifelong learners.

As we begin the 2020-21 school term, Barbe Elementary will continue the Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) program as another way to support a positive approach to behaviors and learning, the results of which will impact academics in a positive manner.

Parents are encouraged to play active roles in their child’s education both at home and at school.  Participation in various school activities, such as Title I Open House, teacher’s conferences, student-led conferences , ATP/PIE meetings, STEM night, Leadership Day, Reading Night which impact the success of our children and offer opportunities for partnerships to form.

We look forward to a successful school year!
