Going Merry is completely different from the older scholarship search engines:

H&H Chemicals Education Scholarship is awarded to two education majors from Calcasieu Parish each year.  Students must have a 7 semester GPA of 3.0, be actively involved in school and/or community organizations and plan to major in Education.  Completed applications must be emailed to mitzi.wilkinson@cpsb.org by March 29th.  H&H Chemicals Education Scholarship App

 

Lake Charles American Press Scholarship is awarded to one student at each Calcasieu school for two semesters.  Seniors must have at least a 2.5 GPA, plan to attend MSU, have school involvement and show leadership qualities, and complete the following application.  Email the application to julie.doland@cpsb.org by April 24th. LC American Press App  

 

 

Calcasieu Cal Cam Orthopedic Scholarship is available for students with orthopedic disabilities (as verifited by a physician) who plan to attend MSU.  Download adn fill out the application and mail it Ellen Beasley, Scholarship Administrator, MSU office of Scholarships, Box 92575, Lake Charles, LA 70669.Cal Cam Orthopedic App

 

 

SWLA Health Center Scholarship is awarded to a graduating senior from Acadia, Allen Calcasieu or Lafayette parish each year. Applicants must have a 2.5 or higher GPA and plan to major in a health care related field.  See Mrs. Doland for an application and note that applications are due by 5 pm on March 9, 2020. 

 

2020 LRWA Scholarship is a $2000 scholarship and any student who resides on a water or wastewater system of the Louisiana Rural Water Assoication is eligible to apply.  Go to https://lrwa.org/resources/ and in the blue area you wil lsee W.J. Fournet Scholarship.  Click on it and it will bring you to the appliacation.  Applications are due by March 6, 2020 to Scholarship Committee, PO> Box 180, Kinder, LA 70648.  For more info call the LRWA office at (800)256-2591 or (337)738-2896.

 

Hoffoss Devall Problem Solver Scholarship is worth $2000 and awarded through a competition sponsored by Hoffoss Devall, LLC.  Go to https://www.hdinjurylaw.com/scholarship to enter. 

 

Propeller Club Scholarships are available in the amount of $1000 to $2500 and four are given each year.  Applicants must have a family member employed in commercial maritime industries (commercial fishing, tug or barge operations, dredging, dock worker, and oil.gas industry workers).  If interested, you need to fill out a scholarship application request by January 31, 2020.  See Mrs. Doland if you interested. 

 

Kyle Andrew Broussard Scholarship (AKA as the FCA Scholarship) is now available to senior athletes who are members of FCA.  Applicants must also have at least a 3.0 GPA.  See Mrs. Doland for an application if you are eligible.  Deadline to apply is March 27.

  

National Association of University Women provide an annual $1500 scholarship to an African American female student who is graduating this spring.  See Mrs. Doland for an application and make sure it is postmarked by March 12, 2020.  There is also a $250 book stipend that is availabel to an African American male OR female student.  See Mrs. Doland for an application which also has to be postmarked by March 13. 

 

Simon Youth Foundation provides an annual $1500 scholarship to a graduating senior who shows financil need and academic promise.  The deadline to apply is February 19, 2020.  Email Mrs. Doland at julie.doland@cpsb.org for an electronic appliation.  

 

Work Force Training Scholarship Program provides financial assistance and services to individuals who want to pursue careers in support of industry in SW Louisiana.  To appy go to www.foundationswla.org or call Sowela at 421-6560 or ABC Training Center at 882-0204.

 

Louisiana College will award a $1250 Francis Schaeffer Scholarship to a student who plans to attend school there.  Students must purchase and complete the 12 lesson book study book, Thinking Like A Christian, with the help of thir pastor, youth pastor or bible teacher.  Permission must be received from the College's Dean by going to www.lacollege.edu/schaeffer-scholarship/.  Once done, applicants are to write a 500 word essay about the study and submit it to the leader by July, 15, 2020.  See Mrs. Doland for more info. 

 

Louisiana Solid Waste Association offers three $1000 scholarships to high school seniors planning to enroll in the fall of 2020.  This is a one-time only award.  Deadline to apply is January 24, 2020.  See Mrs. Doland for an application. 

 

Mattress Nerd is a company that promotes longer-lasting and sustainable products.  They are awarding $1000 to a student who writes the best essay to their writing prompt on environmental concientiousness.  To apply go to https://www.mattressnerd.com/scholarship/.

 

Ray D. Molo Chapter of Grambling Book Stipend is offered to students who have at least a 2.5 GPA and intend to enroll at Grambling University.  In addition to two letters of recommendation, students must submit a 500 word essay addressing "Out of all the historically black universities, why am I choosing to attend Grambling State University?"  Deadline to submit is February 28, 2020.  See Mrs. Doland for an application.

SallieMae Loan Program

Go to https://www.salliemae.com/college-planning to register for scholarships. you can also find info out about student loans as well while on this site.  

FAFSA Completion Scholarship can be applied for is you have successully completed and submitted your FAFSA.  A winner is awarded every month beginning in October.  It is a $1000 scholarship.  http://lela.org/completed_fafsa.

Discover Scholarship Program

Horatio Alger-Bill Dore Scholarship Bill Dore, a MSU alumnus, funds 25 scholarships (through the Horatio Alger Foundation) valued at $10,500 each.  Eligibility requirements are you be a full time senior with plans to enter MSU in the fall of 2020, GPA of 2.0 or higher, have critical financial need and display integrity and perseverance in overcoming adversity. Deadline to apply is March  2020 but the edarlier you apply the better your chances.  For more info, go to https://horatioalger.mcneese.edu/.

Next Step U is a publication that showcases colleges and professions around the country.  The digital magazine can be found at www.nextstepu.com and there are links to schoalrships on the home page.  

 

 My College Options is a survey that the seniors took at the beginning of school that indicated their post-secondary plans for education.  Their website, www.mycollegeoptions.org, offers scholarship searches that match interests and profiles.

Each applicant must show ample evidence that he/she is capable of succeeding at the college level (must send a copy of the high school transcript, GPA, rank in class, ACT, or SAT scores). There will be no discrimination as to sex, race, creed or nationality. These scholarships, in addition to other grants or financial aid such as scholarships, loans, grants or work-study cannot exceed the total cost of the educational expenses for one school year.

 

State Farm Insurance

State Farm Insurance awards ten (10) $1,000 scholarships to student-athletes in the following sports who have earned at least a 3.5 GPA.

Male: Football, Basketball, Baseball, Track & Field and At Large
Female: Volleyball, Basketball, Softball, Track & Field and At Large

 

Fodale Energy

J.C. Fodale Energy Services awards two (2) $2,500 scholarships; one male and one female, to student-athletes graduating from an LHSAA member school and in pursuit of a business degree with a minimum of a 3.5 GPA.

 

Piccadilly Restaurants

Piccadilly Restaurants awards two (2) $2,500 scholarships; one male and one female. These scholarships are awarded only to student-athletes attending LSU in Baton Rouge in the College of Education as an education major.

 

Musemeche Photography

Musemeche Photography awards two (2) $1,000 scholarships to underprivileged student-athletes attending a university in the state of Louisiana; one male and one female.

 

Fuzzy Brown

James E. “ Big Fuzzy” and Ellis A. “Little Fuzzy” Brown award two (2) $1,500 scholarships to student-athletes attending a university in the state of Louisiana.

 

LHSCA

The Louisiana High School Coaches Association awards four (4) $1,000 scholarships to qualified and deserving high school graduates; two males and two females. All applicants must be the son, daughter or legally adopted child of a member of the LHSCA. All applicants must be nominated by a current or past member of the LHSCA, and applications must be signed by current school Principal. Said member must have belonged to the LHSCA for the 5 years just prior to the submission of the scholarship application. Children of deceased members are eligible to apply if member belonged to the LHSCA for five years just prior to death.

 

Additional Scholarships

 

  • 2020 Prudential Spirit of Community Awards are available for students who have engaged in at least one volunteer activity since September 1, 2018.  Interested students complete the application on line at spirit.prudential.com or nassp.org/spirit by 11/5/19.  Qualifying certified applicants will receive the President's Volunteer Service Award and will be eligible to earn a $1000 scholarship or more, a medallion, and an all-expense-paid trip to Washington DC with a parent or guardian.
  • Sussle is a website that allows students to post knowledge about their interests.  They will give away a $1000 each month.  There are no essays or applications and the contest is open to all high school seniors who are US citizens.  Visit http://sussle.org/scholarship to find out more info.
  • Louisiana Education Loan Authority (LELA) offers two types of scholarships-Quarterly and FAFSA Completion scholarships.  Students need to register at www.asklela.org for these scholarships. The Quarterly drawings will be held on September 30, December 31, March 31, and June 30.  The Completion drawings will be held monthly October through May.
  • Studentscholarships.org publishes a quarterly letter that liss several national scholarships.  To view those available for October, November, and December go to https://studentscholarships.org/newsletter.php.
