The staff at LOSFA are celebrating 529 Day! 529 Day is recognized on May 29 as the National 529 College Savings Plan Day. States across the country promote the importance of saving for college and the benefits of having a 529 Account. The START Saving Program is an innovative saving plan designed to help families contend with the growing cost of educating their children. By the time an infant is at least 18 years old, it could cost the parent(s) of that infant as much as $174,000 to pay the costs of attending a Louisiana public university just for an undergraduate degree. With the cost of a college education continually rising, it is no longer practical for parents to solely depend on family income to cover post-secondary expenses. Did you know that the Louisiana START 529 College Savings Plan is a big help when it comes to paying for college and comes with state tax benefits and earning enhancements? An account owner can use funds from their account for qualified higher education expenses such as tuition and fees, room and board, and books and supplies at any in-state or out-of-state accredited college, university, or propriety school. If you want to learn more about these benefits, visit the START Savings website and START saving today! How Will We Celebrate 529 Day? LOSFA will have a series of social media activities during the week of May 25 -29. The activities will focus on saving for college and the importance of a college education. Participants will have their names entered into a drawing to win $529 that will be deposited into a START account of their choice. The winner will be announced on June 1!
