Important Reopening Information

***UPDATED***

Our thoughts and prayers have been with our families through these trying times.  We’ve got great news and some important details and information to share with you!

Our students will begin school Wednesday, October 28th!  We are very excited to welcome our students back and meet new students who will be coming to us for the first time!  Sixth grade students will be attending daily.  Seventh and eighth graders will adhere to BLUE and GOLD days as planned before.

If you registered your student prior to the beginning of school in August and your child did not enroll in another school, district, or state, your student is still enrolled at S. J. Welsh.

If your student was enrolled/registered in another school, district, or state after August 24th your student will have to restart the enrollment process in order to return to S. J. Welsh Middle School.

Registration will be Monday, October 26, 2020 and Tuesday, October 27, 2020 during our office hours in the library from noon to 3 p.m. Beginning Wednesday, October 28th-Friday, October 30 registration will be held in the library from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. We will be observing COVID safety precautions;  screening and temperature checks will be conducted and masks must be worn.

Please be aware that all attendance zones are in effect.  If you have moved out of zone, you will be required to obtain a permit from Child Welfare and Attendance located at 2423 6th Street in Lake Charles to register your child.  In addition, if your student registered in a school outside of our district, you will be required to obtain a permit as well.  You may visit the Calcasieu Parish School Board’s website to find out more information for documentation needed.

Our school day will begin at 7:40 a.m. and ends at 3:00 p.m.  Buses will be running.  However, they are still running at 75% occupancy due to Covid restrictions.  In addition, because of debris, missing road signs, and in some cases new drivers, buses may run behind schedule for the first few days.

Car rider students will enter the west parking lot and drive around the back of the school to be dropped on the east side.  Students will be screened for COVID symptoms while in their vehicles.  Students are not to exit their vehicle until they have been screened. Students are not allowed to be dropped off in the west parking.  When exiting the east parking lot, all cars must turn left.  Pick-up in the afternoon is conducted in the same manner.  Cars enter the west parking lot and exit the east parking also turning left.

Dress Code will be observed.  Students who do not have access to school uniforms should contact administration to discuss alternatives.  Due to continued repair to our campus, ongoing clean up, and debris, close-toed shoes must be worn on campus.  Crocs and athletic slip on shoes, are not allowed.  Shoes must also have a back.

We will be observing COVID precautions throughout our school.  Students must wear a mask at all times while on campus.  We encourage students to bring bottled water as fountains cannot be used.  Thermoses are not allowed.  Students may also opt to bring their own personal hand sanitizer.

If you are able, please visit our S. J. Welsh website or Facebook page after 8 p.m. this evening  to complete a brief survey regarding your students’ enrollment status to aid us in preparing for our first days of school.  We will continue to push out important information and updates over the coming days.  Please continue to check these outlets for information in addition to future callouts.

Breakfast and lunch will be served to ALL students at no cost.  As a reminder, we will not be accepting item drop offs to students once students have entered the campus.

We look forward to seeing you soon and hope you stay safe!
