MAY 1 A.M. UPDATE
In this week’s update, we will be sharing information on grades for the fourth nine weeks, AP and ACT testing information, updated meal program data, as well as the latest on our employee open enrollment. We also are asking for you to share stories of how distance learning is happening in your home.
GRADES FOR THE FOURTH NINE WEEKS
Academic content remediation and grade recovery is still available to qualifying students who might have experienced academic challenges in previous nine-week periods of the current school year. Teachers will be turning in final grades on May 18, so please contact your student’s teacher if you feel like they may be in a position to take advantage of remediation opportunities.
In determining how the 4th Nine Weeks will be handled, it is important to us to make decisions that are in the very best short-term and long-term interest of our students. The district plans to take students’ highest grade from the first three marking periods and use it for the 4th Nine Weeks marking period. Once this is done, if a student need additional quality points to pass, they should pursue on-line summer opportunities that will be announced soon. Report cards will be printed and issued on May 22.
AP TESTING INFORMATION
AP students are being asked to review their contact information registered with College Board through My AP accounts. College Board is communicating primarily through email with students regarding upcoming testing information. To ensure you are receiving critical information, please log in to My AP to ensure the email address and phone number provided is still accurate. Please update it if it is not. Two days before each exam, students will receive an email with a personalized e-ticket that will include their eight-character AP ID code. If a student does not receive the email, they can access their e-ticket directly through My AP.
Instead of participating in the rescheduled June ACT testing date, Calcasieu will defer ACT testing for juniors until the fall. The consensus is that our students will be better prepared and the test more accessible when school is actually in session. Please contact your school’s Principal or the CPSB High School Department at (337) 217-4160 if you have specific questions.
MEAL PROGRAM UPDATE
As of this week, The Healthy School Food Collaborative, our meal delivery company, is delivering food to nearly 4,200 students in around 800 individual households. They are delivering seven days a week from 8 a.m. – 8 p.m. These deliveries will continue through June 30 as of now. To register, click here. For specific inquiries regarding deliveries, you can contact the company directly by email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
EMPLOYEE OPEN ENROLLMENT UPDATE
As many of you know, our employee open enrollment began at the start of the COVID-19 closures. We had to make internal changes and adapt to a phone tree system as well as have staff available to manage enrollment. As of yesterday afternoon, we are 99.64% complete with open enrollment. This is an incredible feat. A thank you goes to all of our employees who have completed their required open enrollment, to Principals and Department Heads for their assistance, and to the Risk Management Staff for their hard work over the last six weeks.
ADDITIONAL EDUCATIONAL RESOURCES
In addition to our teacher Blackboard pages that are all up and running, LPB is offering educational resources for students across the state. There is a resource site available, as well as a full educational broadcast schedule weekdays from 5 a.m. – 5 p.m. Elementary programming is available from 5 a.m. – 12 p.m. and middle/high programming is from 12 p.m. – 5 p.m. View all of LPB’s resources here.
We are really encouraged by all of the wonderful distance learning currently taking place in our district. We know there are challenges, but we are determined to overcome them together. We want to hear from our families as to how our teachers are helping during this time and to how students are doing with school work. If your child has a teacher doing an outstanding job through this distance learning process, please send us an email to email@example.com to share the story. Or if your student is really enjoying this process or is really engaged in an assignment, let us know! You can also message us via our CPSB Facebook page. Feel free to include a picture of your student learning. We’ll be sharing them publicly very soon.
If you have any questions regarding any of the updates provided today or other district related items, please send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org, and we will get back to you as soon as possible.
