MAY 22 P.M. UPDATE
This afternoon we are providing our final weekly update for the 2019-2020 school year. We are grateful for the patience and understanding shown by staff, students, and families as we've navigated the last couple of months together.
In the coming weeks, we will be sharing more information about summer learning opportunities, next school year and more.
Summer care programs will be available this year at Moss Bluff Elementary School, E.K. Key Elementary School, Bell City High School, and Maplewood Elementary School. To register, please contact the school directly. Please remember that we have a limited capacity, and there are some notable changes this year:
- There will be required curbside pick-up and drop-off for all locations.
- Temperatures of the children will be taken each day before they enter the program.
- The children will be spatially separated in groups of 10 to ensure compliance with Phase 1 requirements.
- A mask will be made available to any child upon parental request.
- There will not be field trips for the 2020 Summer program.
- Actual program start dates and hours of operation will be determined by each location.
LAPTOPS FOR SUMMER SCHOOL
The Calcasieu Parish School Board will make technology devices for qualifying students that may participate in summer school. Our staff is working to finalize the details of this process, and we will be in touch with families with additional details very soon.
CPSB SUMMER LEARNING CAMPS
The Calcasieu Parish School Board will offer Virtual Summer Camps for CPSB students during June and July. The first session offerings will be from June 15 to June 26 and the second session offerings will be from July 6 to July 17. There will be no charge for the camps, but some may require minimal supplies which will be listed upon registration.
These summer camps serve as a continuous learning opportunity for our students during a time in which structured learning opportunities are more important than ever due to the COVID-19 crisis’ impact on instruction and learning. Each camp will be led by highly qualified CPSB teachers who can meet the needs of our students that may require special assistance with the learning process. Registration dates and how to register for the camps will be released soon, so stay informed by accessing the CPSB Website regularly. For a full list of tenative camps and a description of each, click here.
The Calcasieu Parish School Board is planning physicals for athletic teams on May 30. In addition, we have schools with Wi-Fi access points that reach their parking lots.
Louisiana has been approved for the new Pandemic Electronic Benefit Transfer (P-EBT) program. This program provides extra help buying groceries for families who normally receive free and reduced-price meals at school. This includes all families attending a CEP school. To receive these benefits, families must complete an application. The application process will remain open until June 8. If you have applied and been denied, try again after a few days. If your family has experienced a job loss or income change during this time, please apply for regular SNAP benefits as well.
We are wrapping up our graduation ceremonies for the Class of 2020. We would like to thank all of our seniors, families, and CPSB staff for making this possible. The ceremonies have all gone very well, and we are grateful to be able to offer a live stream option for those who cannot attend or do not wish to attend. We will celebrate two more senior classes this evening and again tomorrow. If you would like to view those, just click here when the ceremony is scheduled to begin. You will be directed to the CPSB Facebook page, and no account is needed to view the celebrations. Here is a link to where videos of the ceremonies can be downloaded.
