Frasch Elementary Named 2022 National Blue Ribbon School

September 16, 2022

Today the U.S. Department of Education announced the 2022 National Blue Ribbon Schools which includes Frasch Elementary School in Sulphur. Frasch Elementary is one of only seven schools in the state to receive the honor this year, and one of less than 300 across the nation. The Blue Ribbon recognition is based on a school’s overall academic performance or progress in closing achievement gaps among student subgroups.

“Having Frasch Elementary chosen as a 2022 National Blue Ribbon School is a great honor,” said Frasch Principal Kristi Russell. “This award is validation of the hard work that was done by our teachers, students, staff, and administration during an unprecedented time. We are so excited to share this honor with our school community and district.”

Frasch Elementary is being recognized as an Exemplary Achievement Gap-Closing School, meaning the school is amongst the state’s highest performing campuses in closing achievement gaps between a school’s student groups and all students. To receive this distinction a school must rank in the top 15% for one or more subgroups and must also rank in the top 40% of the state for each subgroup. The ranking system includes school performance scores and growth toward mastery in reading and mathematics.

“The U.S. Department of Education’s prestigious recognition of Frasch Elementary as a National Blue Ribbon School Award Winner affirms the grit and commitment to students that the staff there exemplifies daily,” said CPSB Superintendent Dr. Shannon LaFargue.

A celebration will be held soon for all students, faculty, and staff.
