CPSB, McNeese Athletics Launch “Building Cowboys for the Future”

The Calcasieu Parish School Board is joining forces with McNeese State University Athletics in a new endeavor: Building Cowboys for the Future. This program is a joint and ongoing effort to engage CPSB students with different facets of McNeese.

“We look forward to this event and the possibilities of the program,” said Superintendent Dr. Shannon LaFargue. “Our goal is always to expose our students to educational experiences so that they may be enriched in knowing what is available to them on their educational journey. This joint effort with MSU provides our students with a glimpse into their future.”

To kick off the program, cards for free admission to all 22-23 McNeese athletic events are being distributed to all CPSB elementary students and all 6th-12th grade students earning honor roll or banner roll.

Current efforts are focused on facilitating student visits to McNeese’s campus. The first event on the calendar is a 5th grade field trip to McNeese’s Legacy Center on November 7. The students will watch the McNeese Women’s Basketball team take on Ecclesia College at 11 a.m. While at the Legacy Center, students will have the opportunity to visit with representatives from different educational departments within the university.

“I’m so excited about our new partnership with the Calcasieu Parish School Board,” said Heath Schroyer, McNeese Athletic Director. “This partnership will provide students in our parish to be on the McNeese campus and at sporting events starting at an early age. However, this is not just about athletics. This partnership will expose students to McNeese and what we can offer them moving forward in their future academic endeavors.”

Spring events are currently in the works and will include recognition events for CPSB Of the Year winners, dual enrollment students, and more. While the initial partnership is with the athletic department, future plans for the program are to expand it to other departments within the university.
